Powerhouse Comic Con 2017
In 2017 the City of Pleasanton became the East Bay’s geek capital as Powerhouse Comic Con came to the Alameda County Fairgrounds on April 8th. The convention happened to be a family-friendly celebration of all things pop culture from comic books to movies to fantasy and sci-fi and will feature celebrity guests, cosplayers, artists, collectors and vendors.
Powerhouse Comic Con 2017 celebrity guest lineup included Michael Bell, known for hundreds of voice over roles including The Transformers, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, Rugrats, Tangles and The Smurfs. Star Wars fans got a rare chance to meet Julie Dolan who has voiced Princess Leia Organa for Star Wars Rebels.
The prominent voice over actors were joined by Jack Stauffer, a long time veteran television actor, best remembered for creating the role of Chuck Tyler on ABC’s award winning daytime serial All My Children and as Bojay on the original Battlestar Galactica, and Kathy Garver best known for the role of Catherine "Cissy" Davis on the popular sitcom Family Affair. Kathy Garver also provided the voice of Firestar on Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.
Fans of VR Troopers had a great time meeting the series leading actors Michael Hollander and Brad Hawkins who rocked the show with their behind the scenes panel.
Also appeared at Powerhouse Comic Con renowned comic book artists and creators Chris Marrinan (Excalibur, Wonder Woman), John Heebink (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Nick Fury Agent of SHIELD), Ethen Beavers (Samurai Jack, Batman the Brave and the Bold, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Clone Wars Adventures and Indiana Jones Adventures), Matt Hebb (DreamWorks’ Home, America’s Army), Chris Wisnia (Giant Monsters), Tobe Daranouvong (Villain Comic) and Omar Morales (CruZader: Agent of the Vatican).
Attendees cold also shop from various exhibitors and creators, and meet local cosplayers including the featured Elizabeth Rose Cosplay, Asgardian Ace Cosplay, Nor Cal Cap, Princess Marly Cosplay and Liliphae.
The program also featured celebrity guest panels and a cosplay contest where the winner, Zombie Wolverine, took home an one of a kind trophy and $200 in cash.
